Are you willing to devote 5 evenings this fall to learning how to love others better–both within our body of believers and beyond?
This fall at CBC, we’re having separate meeting times for men and women to discuss the book “Side by Side” by noted counselor and author, Dr. Ed Welch. Dr. Welch is also a faculty member at CCEF and often writes at Desiring God.
Here’s what noted blogger Tim Challies has to say about the book: “Sometimes I read a book and think, ‘If we all just got this, the church would be so much stronger. If we all just did these things, the church would be so much better.’ And Ed Welch’s new book Side by Side is exactly that kind of book. If we could all just agree to do these things, the church would be immeasurably blessed.
“Side by Side: Walking with Others in Wisdom and Love is practical advice for Christians on how they can live lives of love for others. Welch begins with the observation and assumption that ‘God is pleased to use ordinary people, ordinary conversations, and extraordinary and wise love to do the heavy lifting in his kingdom.’”
To give you a preview, here’s an introduction from the author, Dr. Ed Welch:
Don’t just take his word for it! Check out what one of his colleagues, Dr. David Powlison, has to say:
You can order the Kindle edition or paperback from Amazon.com; you can also download the audio book from Christian Audio (or get it free for 30 days with a free trial). If you wish to have us place your book order, instead, please sign up in the church foyer by August 28, and reimburse the church by putting cash or a check made payable to the church in the offering, with the designation “Side by Side.”
You can also download a sample chapter of the book in .pdf format (for viewing on any computer, tablet, or phone) for free from the Westminster Theological Seminary website.
We’re excited about how God is going to draw us closer to one another through this study, as we learn how to preach the gospel to ourselves–and to one another–more effectively, and become more intentional about allowing that love flow out of us toward those around us! If you’re interested in being part of this, make sure to mark your calendar:
Men’s Dates: Sept. 14 & 28; Oct. 12 & 26; Nov. 9
Women’s Dates: Sept. 21; Oct. 5 & 19; Nov. 2 & Nov. 16
If you’re interested in reading more by Ed Welch, Tammy also has the following books in her personal library, available for lending out. God has worked in her heart and mind through this author and is thankful that He is never done with His work in any of us.
