Jonathan Wagner has been the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church since January 2012. Born and raised in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, he attended college and seminary in Greenville, South Carolina.
After completing his MDiv (Master of Divinity) degree in 2004, he became an associate pastor in Sutherlin, Oregon. He was married in 2006 and ordained at Westside Baptist Church in Eugene, Oregon, that same year. In 2007 he became a senior pastor in Gillett, Wisconsin.
When Jonathan isn’t preparing sermons, making visits, or performing administrative tasks, he sometimes helps at the Royal-Coleman Funeral Home. In his free time, he enjoys gardening, landscaping, hunting, and taking his family out for ice cream. One of his current goals is to improve his overall health and fitness, and he has lost 35 pounds in the first 5 months of 2016!
Jonathan’s wife, Tammy, is originally from the Chicago area and has a background in education and writing. Tammy homeschools her two sons and plans to help with a homeschool organization in the fall. She also works part-time from home as a freelance writer, teaches Sunday school, and manages the church website and Facebook page. When Tammy isn’t busy serving her family and church, she loves to find creative outlets, spend time with friends, and scrapbook memories. Oh, and reading is her favorite obsession.
The Wagners live about a mile from the church, with their three children, Caleb, Joshua, and Lydia–and their dog, Cookie. As a family, they love to visit parks, have bon fires, and find any and every excuse to celebrate! This summer, the boys will be playing CLAYS soccer, and all three kids will be taking swimming lessons in Conneaut Lake. The kids are also looking forward to having their cousins visit from out of town, VBS, and a family trip to visit their grandparents in Wisconsin.
